I'm 21 and experiencing some major hair loss right now. HELP?

i'm 21 years old, and i'm experiencing hair loss right now for about 2 months. I never had this problem before, and i doubt its cause is genetic since both of my parents have healthy hair still. when i run my fingers thru my hair in a shower, i see about 5-7 strands come off at a time and can definitly tell that it's not normal. I do have a itchy scalp, not to the extent where it keeps me from doing work, but cant help but scratch my head throughout the day.

i'm not 100% positive but my suspision is this hair wax that i started using about 2 months ago, called "Spiker". it's a glue-type product and super strong. i used the product for about 3 weeks, and stopped using it because i believed the wax was causing my hair loss. but my hair has continued to fall off since then.

can somebody please help me out with some possible causes and solutions? i currently dont have any health insurance, and it would be helpful to know what's going on with my hair,

Everyone loses between 40 %26amp; 120 strands a day, depending on how much hair you have, your age %26amp; your hair's growth cycle. People with fine hair tend to have more of it %26amp; therefore will lose more of it than their thicker-haired sisters %26amp; brothers. Your hair also thins as you get older, particularly after menopause for women, but the thinning will stop %26amp; not continue as it will for men.

Here are some factors to take into consideration for common hairloss:

1. Seasonality. You'll lose the most hair in the fall -- typically November and December when hair reaches maturity in its growth cycle.

2. Diet. Hair loss can occur through poor dieting, tight ponytails, even with age.

3. Pregnancy Some women experience hair loss with pregnancy or as part of post-pregnancy hormonal changes. Other women experience hair loss when going on or off (usually off) the birth control pill.

4. Illness Sometimes it happens as a result of illness. Even stress, excessive weight loss, iron deficiency %26amp; thyroid problems can cause hair loss.

If you're really worried, ask your doctor. I hope that this helps~

It probably is male pattern baldness. You get it from your mother's side of the family so look for it in your mother's brothers or your grandfather on that side. If your scalp just itches a little and there is no rash or broken skin then I doubt you have a scalp disease causing hair loss.

You could start using Rogaine (topical minoxidil) but a lot of gals think that bald men are sexy so don't worry too much. It will happen slowly.
