I'm only 18.. why is my hair falling out??

Every time I wash my hair, tons of it falls out! It's all over my floor, my clothes, my bed, everywhere! I haven't dyed my hair in a year, and I never use product. I am currently using a shampoo called Organix.. but it didn't stop the hair loss.

Does anyone know how to prevent this awful hair loss I am suffering from?

There are a few possible explanations for your loss.

1. Your hair might be in the telogen phase of it's life cycle, where it sheds, from the tip, to make room for new hair, which generally comes in around ten days from the loss of the original hair. The telogen, or shedding stage, lasts around 100 days.

2. If you don't comb your hair everyday and throw it up, and you are in the telogen stage, then the loss of all those hairs will be compounded at once, so when you do wash/style/brush, they all finally come out, together.

3. Stress

4. Poor diet

5. Anemia/ iron deficiency. My aunt lost tons of hair b/c of this and I knew a girl who had two plastic shopping bags full of shedded hair that she took to her doctor, so they'd believe her. Big deal.

6. Wearing too tight pony tails.

Does you hair look, or feel (despite what you are seeing) thinner? Again, the loss just might be part of the hair life cycle.

Hope this is of some help.

it cud be from stress, not getting enough vitamins or just cuz u have alot of hair.....i have the same problem....if you have long hair, its alot more noticable. just comb ur hair a couple times a day to get all the loose strands out

You might have a mild form of Alopecia, hopefully just mild. Does anyone in your family have it? Because it can be hereditary. Usually the symptoms of Alopecia start showing up if you're under a lot of stress. And if it is Alopecia theres really nothing you can do but get a wig.

Go to a doctor. You need to find out what form of alopecia you are suffering from. Is there a history of hair loss in your family? A doctor will be able to diagnose your problem and possibly help you. If it is a family history, it is possible that you can use Rogaine or a generic version of it to help regrow your lost hair. Don't wait! The longer the hair is lost, the less likely you will be able to regrow it. Good luck, I have had this problem myself.

Are you eating properly and/or are you in good health? A lot of times when our bodies are lacking in nutrients or when there's something wrong with us it stops sending nutrients and taking care of things that it deems aren't that important at the moment. For instance, if your body is sick or lacking in nourishment, it's going to use every ounce of what it has to take care of your vital organs and muscle tissue first. It's not going to waste it on your hair and nails. So you may want to get a check up to see if there's something wrong internally.

Everyone losses approx. 200 strands of hair a day...If it is more than that, it may be your product...If your Shampoo is packed with proteins it will break your hair, Believe it or not too much protein will cause your hair to break, But if you have been using something without proteins, try using something with them like 2 times a week. You need to decide if it's falling out from the root or breaking off...If it's breaking, change your product (and just because it's been a year since you colored your hair doesn't mean that the color is gone, unless you have cut it completely off). If it still is a problem after a week or two of a new shampoo and/or conditioner, go to your Dr. If it's falling out from the root, go to your Dr....It could be a number of things from your water to medical...

Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. To treat hair loss apply a little lemon juice with some black tea. Massage well and shampoo.Rub oil into the scalp. Wring out a towel in hot water and wrap it on the head. Keep it on for 15 minutes. Shampoo and dry well. Check out http://usefulinfo-hairloss.blogspot.com/ for more info.
